On less than 24 hours notice, there came what seemed like a thousand or more very patriotic citizens from the Twin Beach area of Southern Maryland, all carrying candles in honor of all those who perished on that awful day last Tuesday, September 11, 2001.
After Chesapeake Mayor Gerald Donovan welcomed everyone, there were some rousing speeches by North Beach Mayor Mark Frazer, State Senator Mike Miller, Congressman Steny Hoyer and others. A lady with a really great voice, who was sort of hidden in the crowd and whose name I don't know, led everyone with several great songs, including "God Bless America," and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." All in all, it was a very moving ceremony. Patriotism is alive and well in Southern Maryland!
